My boyfriend and I had spoken about starting a family together and wanting to have kids before the age of 30. He was a runner at the time aspiring to make it to the Olympics. This was his final year running, if he didn’t make it, he was ending his running career. And if he did make it to the Olympics, starting a family was going to be pushed to another time. Sadly, he didn’t make it to the Olympics but after a few months of talking about when the best time would be to start “trying” he finally agreed to try ONCE. All he said was that if we don’t get pregnant we will not try again until October. (I wasn’t ovulating) when he finally agreed. According to my period tracker. But, of course I’m not normal so why should I have thought this was right.
It was end of July when we tried. Just that one time. But WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS IN OCTOBER, and why did we have to wait until after October? Questions I would ask him every day, the only thing I could think of was that we had a cruise booked with his family.
My period was somewhat late, and I was hungry ALL THE TIME. I thought it was just normal because I had just gone vegan and was eating a lot of fruit’s and veggies and I thought it was normal since becoming vegan. I was asleep by 8 pm every day and I started to wonder if there was something else going on. I decided to buy a pregnancy test, and told him the day of casually. “I’m going to take a test today, jus to make sure” So the first pregnancy test comes up with an “error” after waiting 10 min for the result. After being so pumped for the first test and getting an error I took the other test and he left. I was in the bathroom by myself when I saw the little words say PREGNANT I stood in shock for about a minute before I told him, I thought it was going to go into “error” again. When I told him the positive results he was SUPER ecstatic! I went to my specialist who did blood work, a urine test, and did an ultra sound all of which showed I was pregnant.
I was still in shock, it didn’t hit me that this moment was real. There was no way I got pregnant on the first try. Having PCOS… Google made it clear that it would be harder than this. That it would take me years before getting pregnant. Until I saw that little heart beat beating so fast that, I finally came to the realization that after 7 months of counting all of my calories and working out 5-6 days a week including 30-40 minutes of cardio; I WAS INDEED PREGNANT.
How many rounds of IVF did you do? The nurse at the specialist asked us. My boyfriend looked at her very confused and said we hadn’t done any rounds of IVF. To her surprise she responded “you got pregnant naturally?” and we both said yes! She high fived my boyfriend, and now he thinks he has super sperm.
SOO what was happening in October you ask? Well he was going to propose IN OCTOBER… on the cruise. Come to find out we got pregnant THAT ONE TIME. Since I was pregnant my doctor did not want me to go on the cruise since there was a zika virus outbreak. My fiancé proposed on our anniversary with my siblings and friends there. He joined his family on the cruise while I stayed behind growing our little peanut.
We did not tell anyone for the first 12 weeks, the first person who knew was my boss. At 11 weeks I was spotting, and had a complete breakdown at work. I called my DR who wanted me to come as an emergency to make sure we had a heartbeat. When you’re spotting while you’re pregnant they take that very serious and check you to make sure that your cervix isn’t open. I had a few of these episodes. All of which my doctor rushed me to get checked every time. I work in Edison and my doctor was in Princeton. This is about a 40-45 min drive. Every time the little heart beat was there, stronger and stronger every time. This spotting lasted most of my pregnancy.
I was used to working out regularly but when I got pregnant I didn’t want to risk anything. Not after seeing all the spotting. I didn’t want to push myself more than I should have. I didn’t want anything to happen to my baby. Let’s just say I did not work out my entire pregnancy. And all the fitness models on Instagram that get pregnant do not work 40+ hours then workout. Their only job is to workout. Let’s just say… I gained 52 lbs. while I was pregnant. But my baby was healthy and weighed 7lb and 11 oz. AND he was full term 40 weeks and 4 days.
